Some new-age actors in Bollywood:
- Hrithik Roshan (Son of Rakesh Roshan)
- Abhishek Bachchan (Son of Amitabh Bachchan)
- Ranbir Kapoor (Son of Rishi Kapoor)
- Imran Khan (Nephew of Aamir Khan)
- Shahid Kapoor (Son of Pankaj Kapoor)
Luckily for girls, Kareena Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor are the only present age actors who come from a strong filmy background. Others like Priyanka and Katrina have made it big on their own.
You probably must have understood by now, what am I trying to convey. Aren’t Bollywood producers and directors bored of having the same blood in the industry? Years since, it is either Kapoors or Khans that have been consistently ruling Indian Cinema. It is good for them to spread their large lovely family all around the Bollywood. There is nothing wrong if they consider Cinema as their family business and continue in the same for generations to come.
But we live in a country where one in every street is passionate about Cinema and where hundreds of people hold dreams of making it big someday in the glamor world. And some of them put their genuine efforts and travel all the way to Mumbai, the glamor capital of India, to try their luck in the world of cinema. What about such people? Shouldn’t they be given an opportunity to display their talent and contribute to Bollywood?
And please don’t give statements like ‘arey when we get the right talent, we are always ready to promote them’. India is NOT a country which lacks talent. And that too when it comes to Cinema, India has it in abundance.
A change is badly needed in the mindset of Bollywood biggies. The director may complain ‘I am not completely established in the industry and such and such corporate house or producer will not agree to make my movie if it doesn’t have a star cast‘. I know, the producer wants his profits before time and the director wants to establish himself without falling into anyone’s bad books.
But a movie is not only about actors or stars. A movie is a project which is a result of the teamwork of the producer, the director, technicians and the entire cast. When the director is confident about his vision, when the script is right and when the cast and crew co-ordinate well, things will automatically fall in place. We always don’t need superstars’ presence in movies.
For me, I am vexed watching the same faces on big screen. Few of which are highly expressionless and blank. When there is lot of talent out there why aren’t producers taking a matured step by introducing new faces to Indian Cinema? Why wait for superstars’ sons and daughters to grow up to a certain age so that they can make their debut?
If not majority there are audiences who are ready to accept new talent over established actors. If not, why would films like Dev.D, Udaan and Tere Bin Laden impress audience across the country? And if having star cast is a safe option why numerous high budget films are failing to run even for a couple of weeks?
