Small budget surprises

Small budget surprises

So, how was this Friday? Based on the reports till now, awesome is the word. Every cinema is packed till Sunday. What is the big deal, you ask? It is that two of the major Box-office hits of the day are small budget films. After a disappointed outcome from the much anticipated Mausam and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, the response Hum Tum Shabana and Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam are getting is tremendous. As I personally expected, Force is ruling the Box office and is already being slated as the biggest solo hit for John Abraham.

force-saheb biwi aur gangster-hum tum shabanaDespite having a star cast, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan fared miserably. Neither the Katrina magic could do any wonders. The promotional campaigns by the cast, hopping at every other reality show possible, could only gain some not so bad openings. Same goes with Mausam, though I personally feel it was not entirely unwatchable.

I guess, this Friday should be another learning week for producers and directors who are more particular about having a star cast, Marketing and Promotional Strategy, and of course, mega budgets. I am yet to watch this friday releases and I will come up with my reviews soon. But, It obviously should be the script, the performances, and the direction that is making the audience rave about small budget films like Hum Tum Shabana and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster. I hope the response continues and gets bigger and new talented directors are encouraged to churn out more such small budget surprises.
